An amazing two day show held in Caen in Normandy. We caught the high speed ferry from Portsmouth to le Havre on the Friday and returned Cherbourg to Portsmouth the following Monday. The festival was held in and around the racetrack (Hippodrome) in the centre of city over the two days.
The weekend was bright and sunny which always helps.
We arrived early on the Saturday slightly unsure of where to go and what to do. A number of the local car clubs had stands and meeting areas but since we were unaffiliated with any French clubs and one of the very few cars from the UK we just found somewhere to park for the day. The French are very relaxed when it comes to organisation (laissez faire) and it seems to work. As well as the main event in the Hippodrome we took part in the ‘defile en ville’, a tour where the ‘normal’ Saturday afternoon traffic was halted to allow a procession of classic cars to drive freely around the city ending at the Abbaye-aux-Hommes!
The Sunday was dry and bright and it dawned on us that we have entered the main even of the day, the Concour d’Elegance!! The afternoon had us in a queue waiting to drive across the red carpet between an marquee containing the judges and an audience on the other side …. and we came 3rd in our category, “les voitures de legende”!!
Can’t wait until next year …
